Information on Captioning.

CART (Communication Access Real-time Translation)

CART is a method of captioning that is provided for the consumer via one of many online platforms (Zoom, Streamtext, Webex, Facebook, YouTube, iCap, 1CapApp, among many more!). The writers software transmits the captions remotely through the chosen platform, that is then seen on the consumers’ computer screen, tablet, phone, iPad. This is all done in real-time, which allows the consumer to participate and engage in conversation without missing anything. CART can be provided in any classroom, meeting, conference, webinar, or event. Anywhere that there is a need, we can provide it.

Broadcast Captioning

Broadcast captioning (Aka. “Closed Captioning”) primarily is capturing the spoken word on any newscast, local lifestyle show, weather, sports, press conferences, anything on television; with the Closed Captions feature turned on in your device settings. Captions are in real-time allowing the consumer to read them immediately after being spoken.

AI Captioning vs. Human Captioning

Mold vs. Gold.

During the past few years, we’ve seen more and more automated captions on the rise as the world has gone to being mostly online. Those captions are produced by computers using automated speech recognition translates the spoken word into text. More often than not, this may result in a transcript that is inaccurate, and confusing for the consumer to follow and comprehend. Inaccurately spelled names/terms, missed words or missed speaker, environmental sounds, which is important to the context of comprehension.

Ex. of speaker ID: >>MR. JONES:

Ex. of environmental sound: [LAUGHTER]

A captioner is able to identify speakers, crosstalk, environmental sounds, difficult terms and names through training ,experience and certification processes. All of which are in compliance with ADA and FCC requirements.
